Honey, It’s Electric: Bees Sense Charge On Flowers

This week the Patriots read an article from NPR titled, “Honey, It’s Electric: Bees Sense Charge On Flowers” that was published February 22, 2013.  It was interesting to read how nature uses electric charges in order to reproduce.

Have you ever heard of a song called Flight of the Bumblebees?  Listen to this arrangement by the Canadian Brass-it is mesmerizing!

14 Cows for America

This week our class used the book 14 Cows for America for a close read.  We identified ways in which the Masaii showed compassion to America after the events of 9/11.  This instructional sequence included a word study of the word compassionate, identifying character traits of Kimeli, and cause/effect statements.  If you would like more information about the events of September 11th, this is a link to a comprehensive video.

The Patriots love our new iPad!

Thank you Plew PLA for the iPads that were purchased for the classrooms.  This week the 5th graders used the iPad to create a introductory vocabulary lesson for our Science Unit 6 words.  It is amazing how quickly students can put their hands on an App, like Educreations, and use it instantly.
